Oil on wool
2014, Painting Objects: What is a canvas? Does it taste good with jam?
Lalande + Doyle Exhibition Space, Shenkman Arts Centre, Ottawa, ON. (Click here to read Maureen Korp's essay about the exhibition)
Each of these pieces is a representational painting of a specific topic done over a woven surface. The surface was made by one line of wool woven over a wooden frame to simulate a canvas. Once the painting had been completed, the wool was unwoven and rewound into its original commercial shape. The piece explores how much information a painting can still carry when its form has been significantly modified.
